BEST gaming system possible
This information is outdated. Do not use.
If you need assistance please start a new thread.
i'm wondering which would be the better motherboard for speed/SLI pci-e and with firewire. right now i'm looking at asus a8n delux sli
also: which would be best: amd or intel (i'm assuming amd)
and which of the amd is better: 4000 and under series since fx is just way too expensive right now (basically double what 4000 is and not much of an increase)
also: what other additions i'd have to get in order to make it run faster.
(i plan on making this pc a media center too with 300g hard drive in order to have all in one)
will media center sp2 slow down gaming in any way to xp home or profesional?

amd is better for gaming, but it produces more heat. the 64 fx is the best processor, and asus mobos are always a good choice

If you want the best gaming system money can buy then you'll want a DFI Lanparty SLI motherboard, an AMD AthlonFX processor, 4GB RAM, and two 512mB Geforce 6800 Ultras in SLI.
But yeah...
Motherboard: DFI Lanparty, but Asus are also good.
Processor: AMD, hands down the best for gaming.
RAM: The more the better really, but you won't need more than 2Gb.
For a serious processor suggestion, I'd suggest something like a Socket 939 Athlon64 with a Venice core, as they're a lot cheaper than the San Diego cores.
Personally, I'm still using a Socket 754 Newcastle core 3400+ and it's amazing.

are you sure dfi lanparty is better? i checked it out, didn't see firewire capabilities, and it only has 2 pci slots, the asus has more slots/capabilities, including 2 13--- firewire... i think.

AMD is better for gaming in almost every case, but they do NOT produce more heat. Intel's Prescott core is the current heat output champion.
I wouldn't recommend an Athlon 64 FX at this point unless you happen to have oodles of cash laying around - I recommend ANY Athlon 64 processor. A 3500+ would probably be an excellent choice for you.

that's more than any user could ever possibly use. I do high resolution intensive 3d rendering on my system and what you described would blow my system out of the water.
agreed on the DFI LANPARTY NFII ULTRA B MB...<3
as far as RAM goes if you buy something like Corsair XMS...something thats considered 'performance ram' in that it has a low latency and high voltage...you should only need 1GB. But go with 1.5 to 2GB if you are buying anything else.
I'm using a 939 Athlon64 3000+ and couldn't possibly complain...it's an amazing processor.

i'm still wondering WHY people keep saying dfi lanparty is better than the asus a8n delux sli, have you guys seen the stats and compared them both? asus has 1 extra pci slot as well as 1 extra pci-e x4 slot.
it also has a few MORE additions other than that than the dfi lan party
someone please explain why you people say the lesser of the 2 is better O.o

Ppl also spend 10k gold on a Fiery Dragon Sword max dmg rare, simply cuz they find it cool.
Alien Ware looks awesome, and has awesome preformance.
Yep they are VERY expensive, so very true, but if you have the money...heck why not.

I was talking about for a pure gaming system, I didn't see you questioning the FX55 processor or 4Gb RAM, lol.
If you want a gaming motherboard, DFI Lanparty = Win. If you want a massive range of function then Asus or MSI is your winner.

I think they might be talking about the Over Clocking ability of the DFI Lan boards. They have some of the best in the business, although not some of the best designed Mobos as evidenced in a review I read only yesterday, as someone else mentioned them too.
If you are into overclocking your machine, then maybe the DFI is for you, if you want a board that is well laid out, and has a large company behind it, with a history, I would go with the ASUS. That of course is my opinion, but I would suggest reading reviews on the boards mentioned and then decide for yourself. Take a point of view from more than one source before you make a purchase.

AlienWare is nothing but a status symbol. Someone who puts status symbols before practicality should be shot in my eyes for being so ignorant.

OT.
I bought a 5 series BMW. Some might see it as a status symbol, I see it as a Tank against those morons on the road who can't drive for S&*T.
Oh, and did I mention the comfort and ride. Lovely. ROFL.

Intel's produce more heat than the A64 line. A lot more.

DFI's are reportedly much stabler with high end overclocking.

since this is still my first computer i'm making (right now my NEWEST computer is 8 years old, 433mhz celeron processor)
with the asus a8n delux sli mobo, do i need to purchase a sound card, lan card, and other additions, or do they all come pre-made with the mobo, to where i basically just put the lan into the back of the comp and can be online without extra purchases.
and is there anything i can get to upgrade speed, like firewire products and such.
remember: the mobo i'm getting is asus a8n delux sli
